Okay, my queens!
Apologies for the exclamation point smack in the middle of a headline. But while I was not surprised to see Kate in a classic, fit-and-flare Emilia Wickstead dress with a matching belt — and in her favorite shade of royal blue, no doubt — I was surprised (and excited!) to see that she accessorized it with — are you ready for it — shiny patent accessories!
Back in the day, Kate used to rock the patent all the time — particularly in the form of her favorite L.K. Bennett “sledges.” But it’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen her embracing the shine — she’s really been a suede girl as of late — and honestly, I am Here. For. The. Shine.
Especially for the holidays — it just adds an extra touch of old-school glamour to the ensemble, no?
Technically, her clutch, by Aspinal of London x Beulah, is a shiny croc, but those heels, Jimmy Choo’s Romy 85s (now I’m also seeing Rossi, will get to the bottom of that), are patent all the way, baby!
But she didn’t just go for dazzle here at the launch of the National Emergencies Trust, a cause close to the Cambridges, as Prince William served for years as an air ambulance pilot — she added sweetness, too, via this pretty little gold poppy brooch. Monday is “Remembrance Day” in England — same as our Veterans Day — so the symbolic poppy was the perfect finishing touch.
And fun fact: It’s not a piece from the royal jeweler, but a $38 beauty from the U.K.’s Poppy Shop, specifically dedicated to the women who served and lost their lives in World War I. Each pin comes with a certificate commemorating the life of one of the women who lost their lives as a direct result of the war — such a lovely touch.
Next up, Meghan’s look today — which includes a TO DIE FOR fascinator. Stay tuned!
Plus, if you’re looking for #RepliKate pieces to this one, you can shop ‘em below! (FYI: IMO, the closest match to her dress is this fit-and-flare dress from Walmart — for just $14!)
XO, Rosie
